Ultrasonic Flaw Detection
This application induces the sonic energy at various angles into the part. It is primarily used for weld quality examination but is also very common when applied to detect service induced flaws. Ultrasonic straight beam testing can also be applied for flaw detection such as testing plate for lamination or shafts, it is also useful for detecting Hydrogen Induced Cracking and corrosion mapping.
Ultrasonic Phased Array Testing
This specialized application uses multi-element array transducers and powerful computer software. It generates high frequency sound beams at multiple angles simultaneously in a test piece and maps the returning echoes. It can produce detailed images of internal flaws and looks very similar to medical ultrasound images. It can be used for any testing application conventional flaw detection is used for.
